Alta Mediación is a legal practice founded by Pablo Gómez-Acebo Calonje, an attorney admitted to practice in both Madrid (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid) and New York (New York State Bar). With an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center and four years as Legal Counsel at the World Bank Group (MIGA) in Washington D.C., Pablo brings over 25 years of experience advising international clients on cross-border transactions, corporate law, and dispute resolution.

We don't "coordinate with a US firm." We are admitted in both jurisdictions and advise directly in both legal systems — Spanish civil law and US common law.

Planning for later life in Spain
Living in Spain later in life raises questions that your home country documents may not answer. A power of attorney granted abroad will not always work here, and Spanish law now offers its own instruments to decide, in advance, who should assist you and with what powers. Cross-border succession adds a further layer, since EU Regulation 650/2012 allows you to choose the law of your nationality to govern your estate, a choice that has to be made expressly and in good time.
